Prime, seal and protect.
Primer 541 is a water-based primer that evens out surface absorption. Hydrolaca is a water-based acrylic primer used before Estilpur varnishes.
The varnishes are aliphatic polyurethanes in satin or matt. Estilpur 1C is water-based and one-component, with excellent abrasion resistance. Estilpur DV is solvent-based and two-component, very hard and resistant to chemicals. PU20 Top Sealer is water-based and two-component, hard and chemical resistant for heavy foot traffic.
A clear sealer is recommended over a metal finish or patina: use one if you don’t want the finish to patinate (oxidise), or to protect it from general wear.
